On September 8, 2026, the U.S. Embassy in Peru and Universidad Científica del Sur organized the “2026 AI Summit: Shaping the Digital Future” at the Ing. Antonio Blanco Blasco Auditorium of the Colegio de Ingenieros del Perú, in San Isidro, Lima. The event was supported by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy, Miami Dade College and the Colegio de Ingenieros del Perú itself.

The day opened with remarks by the U.S. Ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarro, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Embassy and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. It was followed by a keynote address by Hanneke Krekels, AMD's corporate vice president of global AI markets, and panels on AI applications, infrastructure scaling, talent development and regulatory best practices, with speakers from Microsoft, Cisco, Amazon Web Services, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Salesforce, Meta, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Miami Dade College, among others.

AINI in the regional conversation

AINI took part as an institutional guest, represented by the secretary of its Board of Directors, Roberto Vargas, founder of Betriax. For the institute, the summit confirms a trend it has been following closely: Peru is positioning itself as a regional benchmark in artificial intelligence regulation, while strengthening its relationship with the United States as a strategic partner in the field.

During the event, Vargas invited representatives of the companies present—among them UTEC, IBM, Cisco and AMD—to take part in the Finance AI & Cibersecurity Summit that AINI will hold on December 3, 2026, in Lima, the institute's next forum for connecting the Andean region with leaders in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and finance from Latin America.
